Nageshwar Nath Temple Ayodhya

Nageshwar Nath Temple Ayodhya – just 2.5 kms from Ram Mandir situated at Ram Ki Paidi on the Ghat of Saryu river. This temple is dedicated to Mahadev Lord Shiva.

This ancient temple is believed to be over 5000 years old and as per ancient texts this temple was built by son of Lord Ram – Kush.

The story behind the Nageshwar Nath Temple from ancient stories is that once Kush Son of Lord Ram was bathing in Saryu river and his bracelet fell in the river.  The bracelet was found by Nagraj (Lord of Snakes) Kumud who gifted the same to his daughter Kumudini also known as Kumudvati in some scriptures. When Kush came to know about it he asked Nagaraj Kumud to return it. He refused the same as he mentioned that in their tradition gift to a daughter cannot be asked back.

Kush got angry and he raised his bow and arrow to finish the Nag kingdom. Nagaraj Kumud requested Lord Shiva to help and save them from Prince Kush. Shiv ji revealed himself on the bank of Saryu river where Kush was standing and pacified him. He also offered the thought of marriage of Kush and Kumudini who were later married. Kush built this temple at the same place where Lord Shiva revealed himself and named it Nageshwar Nath that means

Ram ki Paidi : This refers to a series of Ghats (long staircases on the bank of a river) on the banks of the Saryu River, where devotees take a dip in the holy waters.
