Coming 19th of January 2024, India will cherish the grand inauguration of a 125-feet Ambedkar statue for one of India’s greatest personalities—Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will host the unveiling ceremony to be held in Vijayawada in Ambedkar Smriti Vanam. The project is completed at a cost of ₹400 crores and the Smrithi Vanam is spread over 18.81 acres of land right in the heart of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Ambedkar, widely known as the “Architect of the Indian Constitution,” was a genius mind whose excellence rises above the barriers of caste, class, and discrimination. He was born into a British Indian society stinking of inequality with major discrimination against some castes. He made a pathway not only for himself but also for the Indians and their future generations at shaped the future of India.

History & 125th Birthday

Dr. Ambedkar was and is an inspiration for all scholars and economists, therefore to honor him a 125 feet statue was made. A colossal Ambedkar Memorial, ascending 125 feet high, was made to pay a tribute to Renaissance man. Earlier Former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled similar 125-foot-tall Ambedkar’s statue in Hyderabad on 14 April 2023, celebrated as Ambedkar Jayanti in India.

The first stone laid for the ambitious memorial in Andhra Pradesh was laid by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on the 126th birth anniversary of Ambedkar in 2017. The apt site for the massive structure was Inavolu village in Amravati, the developing capital of Andhra Pradesh. Conceptualized as a detailed tribute, the statue is a spitting image of himself and the ideals that he abided by. However, despite being in construction for 4 years, the statue was not finished in time.

An unanticipated event happened when the government, led by Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, decided to quit the “Dr. BR Ambedkar Smruti Vanam” project. Instead, start a new project to pay tribute to the legend in Vijaywada. On July 9, 2020, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the first stone for a 125-foot-tall statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Swaraj Maidan in the Centre of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The financial blueprint of this structure is accounted to Rs 400 crore or $48 million.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy rushed through to finish the construction as soon as possible, he also donated the ground that it was built. Currently known as ‘PWD Maidan,’ with a new name — ‘Dr. BR Ambedkar Swarajya Maidan.’ The aim to finish the structure was completed in August. The unveiling of the statue is being patiently waited for, slated for January 2024. As the statue stands tall, it depicts not only the physical features of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar but also a witness to the long-lasting hard work and strong will of the people of Andhra Pradesh to maintain the legacy of a commendable scholar.

The project is spread across a 20-acre area and budgeted at ₹400 crores. The memorial has various facilities such as a multi-purpose Convention Hall that can house 3,000 people, a Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Library demonstrating his collected works and thoughts, a Buddhist Meditation Hall, a Memorial Park with elegant gardens, and an outdoor theatre with sitting arrangement for 2,000 people built for multimedia presentations.

In addition to that, there will be a reading room or library stocked with 10,000 books. For those interested in studying and researching Ambedkar’s ideas and principles. The memorial park will also host a theater showcasing Ambedkar’s exhibits for public viewing. The statue portrays the ideals, of equality that Ambedkar believed in and hoped his entire life to see in the hearts of people.

Deputy Chief Minister Pidika Rajanna Dora and Minority Minister Chelluboina Venugopalakrishna, both contend with the inauguration. And have made their contribution to the 125-foot Ambedkar statue.

Addressing a crowd from 56 BC corporations. As well as BC, SC, ST Chairmen, and directors from 139 castes. The political officials shared their opinions during a meeting held at Tadepalli on Wednesday.

Rajanna Dora drew attention a fact. That the instating of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue has become a compliment to Andhra Pradesh. He complimented  Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for his decision to place the Ambedkar statue in the core of Vijayawada City.

Rajanna also mentioned that Ambedkar statues are usually found in Dalit villages or on the borders of every village. Jagan Mohan choice’s to position the Ambedkar statue in the Middle area of Vijayawada is incredibly admirable.

Minister Venugopalakrishna’s wish is to commemorate the inauguration like any other festival. He highlighted the uniqueness of the statue, standing at roughly 195 feet together. With a specially arranged stage below, an extraordinary monument in the country.

MLC Lella Appi Reddy and leaders of other political parties explained the positive effects. Of the goals set by Jagan Mohan Reddy. Pointing out how these schemes are promoting the welfare of BC, SC, ST, and minority communities.

YSRC party leaders stressed the point that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy follows Ambedkar’s principles. By considering people’s representatives as servants, not rulers.
